The layout of my land gives me the opportunity of placing the FT & ST in one of my sheds. On the outside of the shed, I have good area to place the growbeds. They will have sun from when it comes up, to about 3pm & be out of the way from a lot of the wind we can get. The ft & st would be placed next to a window that is made of an alsinite type material, therefore allowing some light in.

Benefits are that Power is close by, I believe I can keep the FT temperature more stable (1 x IBC), they would be more protected from elements & UV etc

Fish will be trout. I live in the country and feel that overnight, there are large temp changes (cold) and I dont want to shock the fish. We do wake up in WINTER to ice on the cars etc

Thoughts? :)

Sounds a good plan to me Erich, especially if ou get "iced" overnight.... you just might need to give some consideration to being able to ventilate heat during the spring day time...

Basically, it's exactly what I'll be doing for a client up the Southern highlands of NSW...

Sounds good. The fish dont need sunlight, just to be able to tell if its day or night.
In theory the fish tank will stay at a more constant temp if inside, however if you are pumping your water to a growbed outside your water will be exposed to a different temp - at night it might be colder in your growbed, and during the day it could be warmer in your growbed.

yep shed sounds like a handy place for tanks. Good points are that being in a shed will keep leaves and debris out of the fish tank and makes it easier to shade the tanks to keep algae under control.

As to temperatures, well if pumping to flood and drain grow beds, they are what will have the biggest impact on water temperatures. Flood and drain media beds are definitely powerful heat exchangers.

It will be Flood and Drain (Bell Siphon) 24/7

The temp of the water will increase outside (in the GB's) however as it drains into the ST which is inside the shed, that will "dilute somewhat" the temp difference then again when the ST pumps into the FT - less of a temp difference. I have to option to add 30% shadecloth if neded for the GB as well when it warms up

Thats the plan anyway :D
