Nup...... It's a joke....

One of the best I guess because it has a hint of reality to it.. I think I saw something a while back about how scientists had found a was to make water move uphill, however this is only up a very small incline with very small amounts of water. Certainly not a flow like that and I doubt it was a height like that..

The study is legit as far as i can tell and was published on the 15 March 2010.
A full copy of the article that was published in the "Optic Express" Journal can be found at http://www.opticsinfobase.org/oe/search ... csearch=Go

This is the mastermind behind the breakthrough http://www.optics.rochester.edu/workgro ... 20Guo.html

would be great in a continuous flow setup.

The picture in that article is actually an art installation at the UK's Royal Horticulture Show.

The four "fountains" are actually filled with water pumped in from the bottom. Air is mixed in with it and flows up the inside slope, a slot at the top allows water to escape, not only as the pour part of the fountain, but also back down the outside slope, thereby giving the illusion (thanks to the air bubbles inside) that water is flowing uphill.

As I said, it's crap.... If you check the pdf, 1 drop of water moves up a small card in 1 second. It does not, and can not move huge amounts of water like in the picture.

Even if it could move a reasonable amount of water, about three days of bio/algal growth and the 'laser cut lines' will be erased... No more pumpless miracle!

good point with the algal mass. i think the water would probably have to be very pure.
As for the pic, it was obviously chosen by the site reporting the findings (gizmodo) to show the concept and isnt meant to be a picture of the findings i dont think...

This is bunk. If the laser etched channels are so strongly attractive to the water, why does the water run off the top edge like a bunch of lemmings? :dontknow:
