Ok so I think I may be getting too technical here but just out of intrest, has anyone put any thought into the dirrection they pump water into their FT?

Schools of fish in open water always swim in one dirrection. Here in Western Aus out in the ocean Tuna schools seem to swim anti clock wise.

Has anyone who doesn't put a swirling action in their FT noticed in which dirrection the fish swim around the tank? If not, next time one looks at their fish could they tell me please.

I really doubt it will make much diff to the fish but I was just sitting by my empty FT the other night wishing it was up and running and the thought just popped in my head :crazy3:

Cheers

Fish will have a tendency to swim against the current. So depending on how you pump the water in (or out) depends on which way they go.

There is a long standing myth that the Coriolis Effect is responsible for the way water drains from baths and cisterns etc. In fact the more likely effect is slight imperfections in the construction of the item in question.

No matter what you choose to believe, give your fish something to swim against and pump the water into your FT in at an angle to make a current. Trout certainly prefer a current to swim against.

I think you should make it so that you can swap now and then, change directions, mix it up a bit.. That will give your fish something to think about.. Beside you don;t want the fish building up big muscles in only one side of their body.. :)

Yep, coriolis effect myth is busted big time in day to day situations.

Thanks all. I didn't really think it would make much difference, it was just a matter of the brain thinking too much.

I will have to sedate it better :drunken:

Don't give me any of that local anaesthetic. I want the good imported stuff.
