I heard that Pete got Barramundi from challenger Tafe in Fremantle today. He said they were between 15 and 20 cm long for $4-00 each. Silver Perch I have been told may be at golden Ponds, that was on the grapevine. Voila! Spring is here and today I checked on the soldier fly pupas and to my surprise they were hatching from the bucket. Dahda! The larva have been overwintering in the pod for the last few months. Today was around 22 degrees celsius and their activity level has risen somewhat. I am trying to talk Joel into restocking the biopods. |

Hi Faye We're just still in the stages of putting our system together and don't really understand the best times of the year to get fish of particular sizes etc... I think we've narrowed it down to either barramundi for the hot part of the year, with trout for the cold part... I gather you buy them quite big like the ones from Challenger... or... silver perch, all year round... which take longer to grow... we'll probably be ready in 4 weeks or so I guess... I've had experience with my aquariums, what kind of fish would you recommend? |

You've got it about right Annora... trout for winter, barra for summer... with temperature constaints with both species, both at the point of harvest... Silver Perch all year round, but they basically go dormant through winter, barely eating/growing... so they're a 18 month grow out... |

Thanks Guys ... I was pretty well sold on Jade Perch by Murray Hallam... but did notice that most places in Western Australia don't really sell them Really, I'm anticipating that the type of fish won't really matter for us - it'll be the thrill of catching our first fish or two to eat ... and later on we'll be more interested in trying all the different kinds of fish.. |
