I have been doing a lot of reading and research and am about to begin setting up my system. The only query i have managed to answer is how much water is my system likely to use, seeing as I live on a block with no mains water supply. I have two water tanks. I know theres is a lot of factors but, if i have a 3600 Lt tank and 3600 Lt of grow beds. what could be my water consumption?. Earthbound what is your water consumption in your main system?. |

Water consumption equals the evaporation of water from any open water surfaces, plus transpiration of the plants. If you check out this page theres a fair bit of info about evaporation and you can work out the evaporation: http://backyardaquaponics.com/forum/vie ... vaporation Aquaponics is one of the most water efficient methods of food production and becomes more efficient if you have your fish tank in a shed.. PLant transpiration is a little harder to work out, some plants would transpire more than others.. But if you want to grow veggies your gunna need water, and AP is one of the most efficient methods... |

I guess making sure that the water (flood line) is always UNDER the top of the gravel will minimise on evaporation. |
