Hi guys n gals,

Just wondering if plant growth in winter (outdoor grow beds with no greenhouse) slow down dramatically during winter. There is no heater in the tanks.

My plants are growing but I just thought it would be at a faster rate.
Do you put it down to cold temperatures? (I'm in Perth so temps are between 3-10 in the morning)

The system is a month old so that could play a part, but i did use fish tank water, from my several year old fish tank system, to kick start the system.

Cheers

Probably a bit of both Mu5hu.. welcome by the way...

Winter growth is definitely slower... but you'll also get better growth as your system matures...

Your fish will also grow, so you feed rate will be increased, leading to more nutrient production... bigger plants, faster gowth...

If you plant winter crops they will do fine.

If seed-(or -lings) are planted too late in the season, they won't fruit more than enough to flower and seed.

Welcome mu5hu, I am in Narrogin and I can tell you it is colder down here (They reckon hell is warmer   ) and plants are going fine, I planted same plants in the soil garden at the same time as GB's and the GB plants are 5 times as big, actually eaten some radish from GB and soil ones are nowhere near, as an experiment try some soil veggies you will see they are in fact growing heaps faster in your system

Yeah i've noticed that too. I had some extra capsicum and cherry tomato seedlings and put them in pots. They haven't moved at all, where as the AP ones have grown so yeah, at least they are growing! haha
