Post subject:  Growing citrus tree.

I was just wonderin if anyone had successfully grown a citrus tree in there AP system.
I was thinking of planting a lemon, orange and maybe a mandarin tree (all grafted onto the same root stock), in a 200l barrel.

Does anyone see a problem with this?

I know that i'll have to make sure it doesn't get too big and may have to support it when it gets bigger, but any other problems? Maybe with the roots or something?

Thanks.
Jono

I believe it has been done with varying success by many members.
Typing " citrus" into the search engine shows many many results.

Cheers

I'm currently growing a dwarf lemon and clementine tree. Only been a few weeks but I haven't killed them yet and they seem to be growing very well.

Are those trees on regular flood and drain media, or are they run to waste?

Citrus can be prone to root and trunk rot so it is probably a good idea to make sure their bed doesn't flood too deep and avoid splashing onto the tree trunk.

I have a papaya tree growing in my AP system. Has some fruit on it now, will see if any manage to ripen. If the fruit is any good, then perhaps it can stay, otherwise it will be pulled out.

F&F are those trees in a half blue barrel, or are they full and burried?
I was thinking of putting in a full barrel and maybe making it flood and drain, with a standpipe bout 1/3 the way up so i could burry it abit. Or maybe use an auto siphon.
What do you think would be better??

Cheers,
Jono

Mine is in a 2/3 barrel and just running 3 min flood per hr it does not need more
