Well, I was looking at DanDman's video and he was egg-splaining how it worked. He said when his grow bed filled up with water it starts a syphon automatically. I think I have an idea how to set that up. Does anybody have a picture of the set-up?

Search the aquaponics forums for autosiphon. Should yield more valuable results than a main search engine a this point still.

Different types of autosiphons:
bell sihpon
loop sihpon / Carlson surge device / J loop
floating outlet / flout (by rissy plastics) / inner container pivot
outter container pivot (aka deer scarer)

Most people use the first two. The third is the most reliable, especially for very slow water flow. Very few have tried to make a working example of the 4th. There is also a "valve dump" method used by the Barrel-Ponics system. http://tech.groups.yahoo.com/group/barrelponics/ Another method people also use is a timer to periodically run the water pump to flood and let the water drain back at a slower rate by gravity and drain holes.

Ya got it.
There are actually several autosiphon auto siphon autosyphon auto syphon threads probably in hardware. There is a diagrams thread as well up in useful information.

Truth is, most people need to try out making an auto siphon and getting their feet wet before they really believe in them.

Which particular method are you most interested in?
