Both stores had a sale of their rubber tubs.
170 liter (45 gal) for $12 this is the deep rectangular one
and I bought one of those tubs that are long and flat that slide under your bed for $15 and it hold 70 liters (18.5 gal).

I am set up to start small...
I bought 1/4" hardware cloth to make a minnow trat to catch some bluegill fingerlings Sunday and... at the Walmarts I bought a medium sized rectangular black tub to try my simple design fo a Black Soldier Fly Larva Harvester! I should be able to build the whole thing for about 7 1/2 buck. I will definitly take pictures of it..... but I will only post them if it works, LOL

I do think I will need a little more gravel though...
I need to get all the crap going before I get laid off!

It just occurred to me that an auger inside of a tube may work for BSF, depending on the angle of the screw. Now to find/make one that is short and wide. :happy8:

I am going to prop the tub up at 35 degrees and on the high end I will drill a hole. Inside I am just going to attach hose to the bottom in an upside-down "v"with the point at the hole. As the BSF climb up th encline the hose will act as a barrier guidinf them to the hole where they will fall into a container. I will cut slotts in the side so the flies can get in. It is kinda simple, but I am thinking it should work.

That is the simplest system by far...

I like the hose idea to direct them! Unless you're low on hose/tubing, could just use it whole instead of going through trouble of cutting it lengthwise, no? Let us know how it turns out johnnymax. Remember to put drain holes in also.

OPPS! Forgot the drain holes, but it is only half done so far anyway.
I am using whole hose to guide them. I have the exit hole cut, but need to wire the hose guide in place.
I was going to cut holes in the side so the flies could get in, but I am thinking about just proping up the lid about 3/4".
I think that should work. I am trying to make it as simple as possible. I hope to have it going this evening after work.
