I'm thinking of adding a pvc pipe to the end of one of my GB's, diverting some of the overflow thru there instead of down the stand pipe and drainin into the sumps. Was gonna do it as a small flood and drain bed on its own. Should i fill the pipe with gravel, or just use it as a gutter and drop pots in? I'm gonna be growing duckweed in some of the sumps, so not too worried bout excess nutrients, its more so that i can grow a few more plants. Would filling it with gravel allow me to stock more fish as opposed to just a straight gutter system?? Any opinions greatly appreciated. Jon |

I'd have the plants in pots Its only worth filling the PVC with gravel if its over 150mm deep. |

Yeah i was thinkin of maybe doin it in 150mm pipe. I'm basically tryin to get as much grow bed and vege's in the small amout of space i have available. I've got a 1200l tank, but atm have only got 400l of gb, with plans to double that in the near future and maybe run some pvc pipe along the fence as well. I guess what i'm basically askin is wether it would be more advantages to just have it as a gutter with pots to soak up the excess nutrients or to have it filled with gravel so that i can increase the bacteria levels? Would 400l of gb convert enough ammonia to have it as just a gutter? Thanks Jon |

Stick with the ratios of Gb to Fish Tank and fish. There is a sticky for that. Also you migh want to look into using PVC downspout as an nft tray with just water and drill holes to fit the net pots. |
