I'm gonna put together a few grow beds, wanna make sure I have the general idea. Simply drill an appropriate size hole in bottom for the uniseal, I'll use 1 1/2 pvc extending the piece up to 1" below gravel height, cut U-shape in top to assist drainage. Then place 3" pvc to surround drain with 1/8 to 1/4" holes throughout to govern drain speed.Am I close? Also, are we sure these uniseals won't leak with that kind of pressure on them? |

I would go with 4" pvc and more so 1/4" holes... lots of them. make sure your 3 or 4" pipe is cut square at the base. my stand pipes are only 1" dia and work well. when you put your uniseal in, put a very thin smear of kitchen grade silicon sealer on both sides of the grow bed and a little up the thread so when you screw it up tight it all pulls together firmly. wipe off the excess sealer in the bed and from underneath. the sealer on the thread should prevent a leak past the nut. hope that helps. |
