last month i ordered a 20kg bag of grow out native fish pellets 6mm for my sps. i HAVE APPROX 150 SP and the 20kg bag lasted from 01/10/08 to 01/04/09. The supplier is having dificulty sourcing ridley products. They have a bag of 10mm barra pellets that has been sitting in their store for at least 6 months. I have run out of food amd bought a tin of "pond sticks 375gms for $18.00. I have been feeding them kangaroo mince 98% fat free at $5.00 a kilo, which they hammer in a feeding frenzy. The guys at my produce place have offered the bag of barra pellets at less that cost. My question is................
Should i go for the cut price bag even though they are barra feed and old stock?
Or should i try another supplier?
Keep feeding them roo untill right bag shoes up?
other source?
Fish are 180 to 250 mm and 3months from harvest, water temp is 22 and the fish are still active and ravenous.
please advise team aquaponica

Think the 10mm pellet would just be too big for them... you might get away with a 6mm at that size...

You could crush them... but it's old stock and a whole bag...

PM VB (Vegiboy) or LES (Ellkaybee).... not sure how many fish either have left... might have some spare feed?

P.S. .... has anyone heard from either VB or Les??

Hi Guys,
When I got my first batch of silvers 2 years ago, I was given some small sinking pellets, and larger 4-5mm floating pellets.
The floating pellets are all my trout eat now.
Does anybody know where I can get some more floating pellets? I'm running dangerously low.

our jades live on barra pellets, we can't get anything else . Currently our supplier can only get 10mm or 15mm pellets so we run them through a small blender to crush them. then through a largish holed sieve. If you don't get the bigger pellets sorted the fish WILL choke and die :(

Kuda you should be able to get SK Retting 5mm floating, they come from Tazzie, you could almost swim there, about $60 a 20kg bag here so must be cheaper there, 50% protein as well, google sk retting tasmania should find the site

F&F I will pass on the coffee when I ever get that way

Hi. Try to get the feed that will give your fish the right amount and balance of nutrients. I do not keep feed for more than 3-4 months. Beyond that, deterioration begins even though the fish would still eat them. Expired feed may be fed to the worms.

So where exactly do you get Barra Pellets or good trout?

Went to Landmark here in Bendigo and they looked at me like I was speaking Greek.

What is the best pellet food to give them?

I loved feeding my old catfish with roo. might have to try it on the barra...but my barra are funny, now they are much bigger, they rather eat when I am not around to watch them.
