Hi, First message - panic - shake - Our plants are spindly, leave yellow, poor fruiting, short lived, slow to grow. We have tried adding Seasol, worm pee, worm poo, feeding fish more often, shouting, despair, and now we want to try iron chelate......how much? how often? how to deliver it? Worry! worry! by the way, we are situated in Albany, Western Australia, on a beautiful hill called Torbay Hill. Five grow beds and approx. 4000 litres water, in three tanks.system working for approximately 3 months. Cheers, J & F |

Re: Chelated Iron... straight into your fish tank or sump John.... just follow the rcommended dosage... Poor fruiting... perhaps you need a Potassium boost.... but there could be an underlying problem... Can you post your water parameters... i.e Ammonia, Nitrite, Nitrate, pH and water temp... |

How is the sun exposure? Spindly plants can also be a sign of too little light. How bout some picks. Is there a system thread? |

We have been testing the water for all the usual readings but have not kept a record of them. We will be from today. Large Tank: PH = 6.4: Ammonia = between 0 and 0.25: Nitrites = 0: Nitrate = 40: Water temperature = 22 degrees C. Small Tank: PH = 7.6: Ammonia = 0 - 0.25: Nitrite = 0: Nitrate = 40. We have added limestone to the large tank to start changing the PH levels. Our system is in a purpose-built shed which has roll-up clear plastic blinds and a poly-carbonate roof. As the water temperature was rising too high for the rainbow trout we have stocked the tank with, we tacked green shade-cloth to the underside of the roof for half the width of the building. That has kept the water temperatures down to acceptable levels. The building faces north, so receives quite a bit of sun throughout the day. Cheers, J & F |
