I started building a hydroponic system awhile ago and then started to read this forum.

I have 3 6" PVC 10' sections that are then reduced to 4" sections that drain to a 40 gallon trash can. This means that each pipe would constantly have 1" of standing water which I had planned to use air pumps and air stones to keep oxygenated. Is this a feasible set up?

What size holes do I need to cut for what size net pots for this size system? I would like to grow tomatoes and peppers. Cutting the holes is really the last step I need to start!

I also have 2 small cheap pond liners 10'x10' and 6'x6'. I could build a small grow bed/solids filter out of the larger one?

What is my best option to start something this year? Money is tight so should I just finish it as a hydroponic system to get my feet wet and then slowly try Aquaponics?

I really want to get something going and need to use what I have already spent money on.

Aquaponics would be cheaper. No chemicals to buy.

As long as your water is constantly flowing, and is well filtered before the grow tubes it will work fine.
