Post subject:  Giving up the Good fight....for now

I am afraid I am going to have to give up on the 'aqua' ponics and move to the hydroponics FOR NOW. Due to a job change (which = nice pay cut) I find myself working more to makeup for some of the money loss. I cannot afford to put plastic on my greenhouse this winter, and having time to find the right fish/feed is not happening. I have already setup a system with 18 collards, 18 cabbage, 18 broccoli, 18 cauliflower and about 6 head lettuce plants. I shouldn’t have any problem getting though the winter with these, and incase I manage to get plastic up later in the winter, my harshest temps. will be in January and February, so its not a total give up as of yet. I plan to just supplement my water in the system with water soluble fertilizer to crutch myself for now. I hope in the spring things will put me back on top to make another run with the fishes. Thanks to all for advice given and the chance to be apart of these boards.
Again, I am not gone, just backing up a bit for now.

Thanks again,
Mike

Well, you could always go pee ponic for the winter. Depending on system size it would probably only take one pee every few days to keep your veggies going.

I know, some people don't like the idea but it is free fertilizer and saves water on flushing!
:flower: In case you are wondering, I've been running one barrel system for most of a year on pee and If I'm ever leaving a system empty of fish for an extended period, I set up a Hummonia drip for it to keep the bacteria alive till a few days before I'm gonna put fish in.

Kind alike fishless cycling the free way!

My quarantine system runs solely on Urea, and seasol now, keeps it ready to go. (actually grows better than the big system)
