I have a freshwater fish tank that I've been chomping at the bit to use as part of a small indoor AP set-up. I've finally got myself into a position where I can afford a decent lighting set-up and want to make sure I do not have any mishaps with flooding my apartment with faulty siphons. I'm on draft number 20 or so. I've lost count.

I saw a set-up using an auto-siphon (I believe) a few months back. I've spent over an hour using the search feature to find the thread. I thought it was TCLynx (I may be wrong, it was an indoor set-up), but I can't seem to find it. I searched the sticky'd member systems but that was horrible, there are so many noteworthy systems (maybe byap should consider some sort of filing system or categorization for quick comparisons of different system set-ups?).

I know that I had it bookmarked, but the notebook I had it bookmarked on took a dump on me. DELL!!! :evil: I'm sure someone else has it bookmarked as well. I'm hoping to recreate this: http://www.aquariumguys.com/cs150overflow.html via DIY and I'm fairly sure that the thread in question would help further my development.

I have a thread that probably fits the bill.
You can try searching using me as the author within member systems and I bet if you slip the word aquariponics or breeding wall you will come up with the thread you were looking for.

The no holes overflow thread is probably even more to the point of what you wanted though I will not guarantee that a no holes overflow won't fail and cause a mess to need cleaning though. I suggest to always install a backup overflow on anything and everything in one way or another just to reduce the mishaps.

I put a high point vent in mine with a clear tygon tube and a valve at the bottom of the tube. I vent this once a week to be sure it does not collect air which would break the siphon.

has anyone come up with a water bridge design/concept that will prevent the air build up?

Like what would happen if you had a T in the middle of the bridge and then a straight tube about 6" and then a 90 degree elbow and another 2" pipe with yet again another elbow. If you filled this entire area with water would it still work? Where it would gradually gather air yet would give you an even longer period of time without having to clear out the air?

Just rambling.

I think the air will slowly build up unless the flow is strong enough to move the small air bubbles before they become too big.

what do you guys think would be the most effective way to prevent water from entering the water bridge I have a few ideas, but I have to work in less than 6 hours and I'll draw them up... but I'm curious to others' thoughts.

you need water in the water bridge i think you mean air :roll:

hehehe... I fumbled for a bit with many designs and decided most were ugly due to the orientation of my tank in the room. So I cut a hole in the wall, pushed the thank through, cut a hole in the floor, and drilled into the base of the FT...
Looks elegant, and was a minimum of effort.... 1 day and two evenings. Check out my thread to see... it's really quite simple.
Oh and if you want to borrow my glass drill, sure thing, just ask Steve who else is in line and you'll get it eventually :-)

Yes I know this is OT, and the subject specifically stated no holes... but... well... ok I have no excuse ;-)

A few people got p*ssed off and deleted all of their posts, which made their threads (with a lot of very good info) unreadable.

Not having an edit button can be a PITA sometimes, but it stops a lot of stupid posts - I certainly think twice before posting stuff that cant be deleted in the morning :wink:

Do a search on posts by a member called Hamish, and you'll see what I mean.
