Hi,
We just recently put our aquaponics system in, and so far so good. We just got about 20 comet fish in and 10 yabbies at the moment while we wait for silver perch fingerlings! Thought we will share a couple of photo's with you. One is taken on the 13 Sep. (thats when we installed the new system) and another on the 1 Oct(today) and everything seems to be growing real quick (just been 18 days),our water just turned green on the weekend but apparently that is normal.
And then there is a photo of the whole system. The open space behind the system is for a shed. Can't wait for the silver perch!
 Brandon & Ira

Very pretty - where are you getting your Silvers from?

You will need some sort of shade for the system as summer kicks in as well.

Green is ok, it will clear  Done any water tests?

Rockingham, 45 minutes south of perth, an outer suburb. I used to live there - too windy and no gold mines :D

You go guys, that's looking good. We found that as long as the expanded clay is covered with foliage before the heat of summer kicks in that the summer vegetables will cope without any worries because they have plenty of access to moisture. We have systems here in full sun that do well and also in winter as long as you plant for the season.
It sure is off to a good start.

Hi All,

~At this stage I think we will get our SP from Golden Ponds in Baldivis, they said they should have some fingerlings in about 3 weeks
http://www.goldenponds.com.au/recreatio ... erth.shtml
I also phoned Carey Nagle in Gidgegannup and they start breeding in November, but she did say they might get a shipment in early if there is enough interest.
Phone: 08 95746012
Then there is Arcardia Aquaculture in Badgingarra but I have had no success there yet, but here is the number in anyway:08 96526060

~And yes we have done a water test, its as follow:
PH -7.6, Ammonia - 1.0, Nitrite - 1.0, Nitrate - 40.0
If that makes any sense, still new to all of this so dont know what it all means yet.

~And then with the shade, we might put up some of that triangle shadecloth just of the shed once its there (waiting for council approval) if we need any. The shed will also provide afternoon shade and protect the plants a bit from the wind. Faye's setup is just north of us and that looks really well!

~Yes Secret Harbour is 45min south of Perth and its windy and we do not have a gold mine, but then we do have a refinery, awesome surf and no red dust.. Think that makes up for it!!

~ Sorry about the massive photo's, I just seen how big they really are and I have no idea how to make them smaller

Thanks for all the replies, its awesome to get all this feedback!

I dont surf - quite attached to my legs and arms :D

PH is good, Ammonia is most likely dropping, along with nitrite - ideally you want both to be 0, Nitrate is good - means there is plenty of nutrients for your plants to use up as they grow.

As the ammonia and nitrite drop, the nitrate will most likely peak, than start to fall (until you get more fish anyways), as it falls your green water will start to clear up

Covering the water, and adding extra air is a good idea to help clear it up too.

I will try to get a group buy of SP fingerlings together - that way we can all get them sooner, and get some fat on them before winter.

Just a quick update on our system. The shed arrived today!!!
This helps alot for the wind and gives the FT and GB a bit of afternoon shade!!
All 100 Silver Perch is still happy and eating ALOT..The water is still that shocking green colour but the plants seems to be happy and is still growing like crazy!!!
And yes Brandon ordered the window at that exact spot so he could keep an eye on his fishies while working in the shed
