We’re building a pond on our property and I’m looking to incorporate AP into, initially I’ll only have small GBs to act as a filter, however in the future I’d like to add lots more.

The location is in a natural depression where the water runs. The terrain below the pond slopes slightly and receives 8-10 hrs sun daily. It’s possible to build a CHIFT PIST system, however the bottom of the GBs would have to be at ground level.

The black lines in the picture below show the outline of the pond. The blue lines show a shallow area that will have a stream and waterfall into the main pond. The red lines show to where the GB/filters will be. These will be made from 1.5m x 400mm concrete cylinders.

I’m not looking to make a super efficient AP system, it will be more of a garden feature that provides some fish and has a GB’s as it’s filter. It’s difficult to gauge the size from the pics, it’s a decent size and we plan to have a depth of 1m. The pond will be about 150mm above the land.

Besides adding an outlet pipe for a possible future CHIFT PIST system, does anyone have ideas that I should put into the design at this stage?

A hole for the pump to sit in, with the base of the pond slopeing into it - gives a place for the crap to go to and get sucked up.

I was planning on having a deeper section for that and having the water enter the pond to create a whirlpool effect, so everything heads to the center..
