Hello people...

the water in my tank looks like water from a dam... i washed all my grow media etc, it started out kinda clear, but now with fish and plants etc.. murky.. like dusty water... all suspended particles.... I would like to put a sediment filter in the pressure side of the pump, BUT all that stuff in the water is probably good stuff that i will be removing.. Right???

any one else dealing with this... ideas???

cheers peeps

Steve

The system I have had minimal vis, for a month or 2.
Now the water is very clear, though when I feed the pirahna(trout)
they do tend to disturb any settled particulates in a mad scramble for food.
Within a few minutes it all re-settles.

do you think its media solids or more like green water?

i found my solids from the scoria (i didn't wash it, sorry les) settled in a few days to a week.

if it was clear and then has lost visibility then its probably just part of the system start up and will get worse before clearing pretty much over 24 - 48 hours

iwashed my gravel and the water was clear till i had to dig up sme of the gravel to fix where my gb attaches to the syphon hose then the water got very muddy very quick

its been running for 3 days now seems to be clearing slighty with most of the solids settling out in the sump

A brand new system will take up to 2 months to clear, any further sediment added later (new growbeds etc) water will clear within a day or 2.

The biofilm sucks up the sediment
