I have a question for you all I would like to know about Fisheries do you have to have a licence for aquaponics at home , or for transporting fish in WA what about the other states I know that there stiff on that sort of thing and I cant seem to find any reference to it on the forum Look forward to the answer Q

Im pretty sure in SA that you dont need a liscence if, 1 they are ornamentals 2 they are not for sale But of what i have heard WA, has heaps stricter regs, and you cant bring in aquatic plants from interstate so im not sure about the fish... |

Yeah, thats what i was thinking too quambie. Hope you dont need one though, here in S.A. Aquaculture liscences are around $1000 |

The question is more to do with translocation of diverse range of aquatic bugs, good and bad and the possible release to waterways of undesirables. and yes quambie, there are regs' that depending on certain critera I found this..... Translocation Approval In accordance with Regulation 176 of the Fish Resources Management Regulations 1995, a person must not bring into the State, or a particular area of the State, a live fish not endemic to the State, or that area of the State, other than in accordance with: the written approval of the Executive Director of the Department of Fisheries; or the written authority of the Executive Director of the Department of Fisheries. Therefore, if you propose to bring into an area of Western Australia a species that is not native to the area, translocation approval or authority will be required. Proponents should complete the form "Application for an Authority to bring into Western Australia, or an area of Western Australia live non-endemic fish" and you may need to complete a translocation synopsis insert. This form should be lodged concurrently with the aquaculture licence application. Please contact the Department of Fisheries on (08) 9482 7333 for further details. This is for WA. C1 |

ouch that would hurt plus the cost of the setup could be a long time before you broke even how many veggies can you eat Q |

HI C1 Thanks for that you are very well versed on it I thought I may have to have a licence as we have no fish in Doodly at all so anything would be an import so to speak I will get on to it do not want a large fine when it all gets going Q |

www.fish.wa.gov.au will get you there. I seem to remember a post that delt with this and that maybe Y I haven't had to deal with it yet. No doubt when EB reads this he will add. They have a few good linls too. C1 |

HI C1 I am onto it Thanks How do they,Fisheries stop the gold fish /carp /barra and a host of other fish bought from City farmers and the like going into the home system, and then being dumped /flushed. doing a load of damage to our ecosystem No licence requirement on that front I see. the only reason I know that CF sells Barra was a few weeks ago I was in one of there shops and asked the question he told me that he could get them and had sold them before and just to let him know when I wanted them and the amount we will never beat the system but it has wholes in it Q |

Well... that is how it has been. One of my neighbours has a creekline that disects his property. It is a winter creek that flows to a permanant pool a few K's away. He has ( local)pigmy perch that appear ever year and crustacia(?) when it is in flood. It would be interesting to see what would live. C1 |

Hi C1 Yep I agree with that and that is just one creek. I do not mind doing my bit to help the environment at all and always have. I am hoping to have this system up and going by the end of January but I also have a small holding to get on the road this will be part of it. we do not get fresh fish or veggies in town and the small holding is a step up from the system I have now all clean and green. It is a lot more work than I first thought but it will be worth it in the long run Q |

Q, I'd give fisheries a ring and explain to them exactly what you want to do, the fact that you are going to have a "FEW" fish, inside a greenhouse, grown for your own consumption, technically not much different to having an aquarium... Though Steve is about to tell us the bad news, that theoretically you can't even bring a bloody goldfish home without filling in paperwork....

Hi earth bound Yep agree with all that I just tried to PM Steve the system tells me that if I want to start a new topic must put in a heading !!! only to let him know that I have had a email from Fisheries already boy are they quick but all the licence things dose put you off a bit when you can have a fish tank and put in it what you like where ever you live endemic to your area or not Q |
