I'm keen to have a play with an autopot, until I get my bigger AP system up and running. Anyone know where I can find them in Brisbane?

Just do it online. I have a lot of autopots and they are a great way to start. You can incorporate them into your AP system. But they are a closed system. No water returns to your FT.

Autopots are excellent!

I trialled three autopot valves this time last year. 6 tomato plants in 6 pots which were sat in a plastic tub. Each tub was attached top one autopot valve which was connected to a large plastic water bottle ( 25 L or so ... the ones that sit on top of the office cooler systems) .

The valve regulated an organic hydroponic solution (various manures, aquaponic effluent water, and worm wee etc. etc. ) that I made up, corrected pH and EC.

A very good crop.

A little end rot on some tomatoes due to lack of calcium and overspray from my spray irrigation directed to other areas.

Next time .. I will add shell grit to my fish tanks and try not to allow any water to spray above root level.

I tried an autopot this past summer for hydroponics. Did great until I moved the water tub a little and un-knowingly squished the water hose to the plants and they died. Also when cleaning everything out, I noticed that most of the nutrients were sitting at the bottom of the water tub even though they were mixed with the water when it was added. May need to mix/aggitate the water and nutes at least every week to really work as intended. The nutrients I used were liquid as most of them are for hydroponics. Now the autopot is waiting to be added to my new aquaponics system.

I'm filling my autopot tank with fish water as a base for the hydro mix. Also going to add a couple of airstones to see if this helps mix the water a little. Airlift pump to the rescue. :cheers:

Ryan - should have picked up a valve when you went back to get your iron :lol:.

I got a valve when I was there - just to have a play with. Haven't done this yet. Was a bit costly from my perspective, but will be good to have a play. I'll probably just use it to rig up auto watering from a tray I can put seedling trays in.

I was told that the stuff that settles out is just inert carrier material and there is no need to be concerned about it. As long as you did not add the nutrients together undiluted I'm sure its fine.

I tried hydroponic auto pots but after a while I had to rinse the excess salts out so the plant would not die. Using autopots in AP should be a great way to use them.

Got 15ish pots going all the time. Passion fruit, chilis, celery, beans and tomatoes. Been getting lazy and fill the tank straight out of the pool most of the time now. Growth rate has been the same or better and there is less build up in the pots.

Is it possible to just buy the valves? Do they sell it like that at all? Or you got to buy the whole pot........ that would be out of my reach to import here.

Can you direct me where F&F? I have a friend over in Oz at the moment for a holiday and he might be able to lay hold of some if not too far from Perth........
