"WARNING ! don't download this spreadsheet unless you have checked further in this thread if there isn't a newer version and regularly come back to look for updates." here is a spreadsheet to calculate: - filter media volume versus feed rate if we know the relative surface of different size gravel or other media we can add them to it - relative fish density fish density versus recirculation rate - pump efficiency - filter surface to Koi pond volume ratio - controlling O2 concentration not finished, only equations, so if someone feels tempted... Attachment: feel free to use it, but do so at your own responsibility Frank |

Calculators! Yay! Here's my spreadsheet (V2 - it's still a work in progress) viewtopic.php?p=128111#p128111. Input: - Growbed, sump and FT size (sump is currently added to FT size) - Pump output at head Optional input (you can leave these at the standard values): - Fish feeding rate - Protein content of fish food - Feed conversion rate There is also an input box for other nutrient sources than fish food (ie peeponics and fertilisers). The sheet then calculates: - How much you can feed per day - How many kg of fish your system can handle It also tells you if your FT or pump is too small. Please leave a comment in the thread if you use my sheet, so I can see how accurate it is! |

Nice calculator. It might be useful to add some of the more common types of media to the list, 10mm gravel is around 315 m2/m3. Its considerably cheaper than kaldness k1 too |

Quote: considerably cheaper than kaldness k1 too and if you see the volume of Kaldnes needed compared to simple beads ... Ooops, just found two little errors: here is the corrected spreadsheet V2: Attachment: sorry frank |

May I suggest to use a uniform legend for these spreadsheets? (not necessarily mine) this is mine: legend (suggested as standard for other calculators) color - instruction variables: bold blue to play around with, only tick in numbers, the units are added automatically calculation results bold orange - don't mess with these !!! data provided by suppliers or found in papers bold black - some might have to be checked data provided by suppliers or found in papers bold green - should be checked important remarks bold red greetings Frank |

V4 includes a calculation of biofilter volume needed when using 10 mm gravel: Attachment: anyone knowing of other media specific surface, please tell me, I will include it but please stay cautious with this spreadsheet: it is founded on information I found on the net a lot of this info is contradictory so some assumptions based on them might be wrong still: have fun frank |
