I checked out the 500 litre tanks at Bunnings today (round green tank with lid). For $79 the price is right, but it does say on it "not suitable for drinking".

Any comments on whether this would be suitable for fish, or should I heed their warning and give it a miss? Incidentally, what other options would I have for the 500-1000 litre range? I've thought about an IBC, but I'm confused about how people get the fish out?

Are you human?: woof

Some time ago I sent an email to the manufacturer.
I received the response below.
However, I now have six of these things in my system.
They are good value for money, give em a good clean and I reckon they are OK.
There are plenty of others using them in their systems also.

I have purchased your Jumbo 500 lt tanks - Article number 05573.
I intend to use them, to grow fish for human consumption.
Can you confirm that these tanks are suitable for holding water for human consumption. (food safe)?
Are they made from re-cycled or new materials?
They appear to be an excellent product for their cost.
I look forward to you reply

No sorry. Our water-butts are not suggested for contact with foods or human water.
Just for "raining water"

THERMOPLAST - divisione Ferraricasa

Not that it matters now, my system is up and running with five of these "water-butts"
I have no intention of changing them!
(well, not until I want bigger system)
