From memory Novaris... some shadecloths are soaked in an antifungal agent.... |

You just want to make sure that it isn't one of the types that is treated with the anti mold or anti fungal chemicals. It might be a good idea to rinse it well before putting it where it will be in contact with water. Many people actually use the untreated kinds of shade cloth as bio filter media. |

I have been using shade cloth as a structure in my tanks for a while now... somewhere on here there is a post with the chemical composition on most shade cloths... I remember it from way back just after I joined up here... Cant find it

The place I got my shade cloth from didn't say anything about anti mold or fungal treatments so  I actually smelled it real carefully when I got it, then just to be certain, I tasted it.

I have been using hessian 1/5th the price of shadecloth. Wont last as long, but I dont expect to get more that a couple of seasons out of that either. 1 cyclone and its gone. |

Would washing the shade cloth in warm water remove any chemicals it has been treated with. |

Shade cloth is used outside. If rinsing it in water got rid of the chemical treatment then wouldn't a good down pour do the same. I don't think it would be that easy to get the chemicals off. I would stick to the non treated stuff. |

Just that they don't label the stuff untreated and I wouldn't like to take the sales guys word that its not. |

Putting it through the washing machine on hot would probably remove anything bad - would need a big machine though Laundromat? |
