This frog was living happily in a pot filled with water and it is the ideal place for them to lay their eggs. Keep it simple and you will get results in time.

Does anyone know anything regarding the lagality ( or possible illegality ) of collecting tadpoles from local waterways / lakes in Perth ? a friend had frogs breed in her pond , ended up with 300 tadpoles , Im thinking , after a couple rounds of breeding there'd be enough there that I could start feeding em to my trout plus letting the kid watch tadpoles turn into frogs . wondering if I'd get in trouble for scooping some up from the local lake |

Boris there are translocation issues, if the taddies are moved more than a short distance. Better to create a frog pond to entice them rather than removing them from else where. also the risk of disease migration. A frog pond will achieve endless supplies of taddies. IMHO only. |

Aussie frogs are endangered and everyone ,who can, should have a little frogpond in a rear corner of the yard. |

I was intending to use the 500L sump on my main system as the frogpond , I dunno how to entice them to it though |

Build it and they will come Boris. I would probably make something in the ground which doesn't have to be big, like even the size of a tyre lined with plastic and then add some papyrus grass or reeds and floating water fern or duckweed. A log to get in and out of, even surround it with agapanthus and ferns so they have somewhere to hide. Make it look natural and if you start with pygmy perch they can eat the larvae of the mosquitos to keep it clean. With the wet weather coming you may just happen to find frogs very close by that would like to live in your pond, the key is to have a place where they are happy and they can breed. Add a few rocks and you have a place where lizards can also live, it is called creating a habitat for wildlife. If you want some ideas you can come and see me. |

they like still water but can handle a bit of movement, and as faye says as well! |
