Hi all,
Had my system for a few years. Trout upto now but i'm looking to move to koi (IBC as a nursery with a hookup to pond next year)

Apparently Koi are messier, so i'm thinking about changing my splitflow and instead send all the ft water into the beds and then down to the sump.


i've attached a diagram of my system, and have added a plan for a biofilter.


should i even change from split flow?? if so...
can someone check this setup is ok in terms of pipework in/out of biofilter?

Unless you are adding some solids filtration you may want to go FT -> growbeds -> biofilter -> sump so the water going into the biofilter has less solids in it.

Looks to me there is some inline filtration already. I'm assuming that's what the SF is .... swirl filter? I had a F/D system a few years ago, but with no inline filtration before the beds. The gunk built up and cleaning the beds was a real PITA. So I converted to sandbed system. No cleaning issues for 4+ years. Keep your inline filtration if you expect the koi to be more messy. Or investigate iAVs/sandgardening.

I always thought the main purpose of the mineralization tank was to mineralize the solids into useable plant food, so what's the benefit of keeping solids out of the mineralization tank?
