Limited space, working with a pre-existing concrete formed pond. My goal is to increase the filtration of the pond and increase the total amount of water volume in the system while incorporating low maintenance grow beds with aquaponic / permaculture concepts. I considered a sump as well, which would be great, but limited space means I would have to bury it and would most likely have to dig up a tree to do so. Instead I intend to have constantly flowing water filtering through the grow bed reservoir. My concerns are: should I put an air valve in the grow bed overflow to prevent forming a siphon? I'd hate for a power outage to create a siphon and flood the fish pond. Am I at risk of fish waste solids clogging the grow bed reservoir? I considered making the first bed in-line a more traditional aquaponic grow bed (flood/drain + bell siphon?) to increase tolerance to this, but I couldn't really work out how to keep my continuous flow design goal. |

Which bits are which?... Which one is the pre-existing concrete pond... Where does the wicking bed fit into the system? |

Oh sorry I thought it was more clear. The two top left sketches are the pond, the 2500 x 600 structure. The other two are grow beds, both of which are wicking beds. |
