Limited space, working with a pre-existing concrete formed pond.
My goal is to increase the filtration of the pond and increase the total amount of water volume in the system while incorporating low maintenance grow beds with aquaponic / permaculture concepts.
I considered a sump as well, which would be great, but limited space means I would have to bury it and would most likely have to dig up a tree to do so. Instead I intend to have constantly flowing water filtering through the grow bed reservoir.
My concerns are: should I put an air valve in the grow bed overflow to prevent forming a siphon? I'd hate for a power outage to create a siphon and flood the fish pond.
Am I at risk of fish waste solids clogging the grow bed reservoir? I considered making the first bed in-line a more traditional aquaponic grow bed (flood/drain + bell siphon?) to increase tolerance to this, but I couldn't really work out how to keep my continuous flow design goal.
