Been offered a sand filter, not sure yet what size but are they any help in AP

A sand filter is usually for a large swimming pool not Aquaponics (as far as I know) don't you run the nutrient rich water through your grow bed for your plants? You would need a sizeable pool pump to push the water through the sand as well.

If you have a system that needs extra filtration then it might be worth it. I don't think I'd use it as a sand filter though. Many of these can be modified to be a bead type filter and that's probably what I would do.
