I have some white stuff floating in my seedlings nursery..what is is? why does it appear? i am growing those two plants in media and LED LIGHTS to later put in nft system and i have this weird white things floating atop the water and some gray-ish thing that covers the whole floating surface you see in the picture.
I have to upload the pictures to google drive since nothing i know works anymore would you be so kind to look at them

https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/ ... cnstQny964

Also, am i growing them right? are the seedlings ready to be transplanted in a nft system? I've been reluctant so far because i read that they need to have 2-3 true leaveas before transplanting them and didn't want to have them taken by the stream...they seem real weak

Looks like the plants need more light, that's why they have the long thin stems that look weak (usually referred to as being leggy).

As far as the film is concerned, it might be an oil (hand cream, kitchen proximity...), a protein (tough to say where this would come from), a bacterial film (usually not much to grow on in plain water but it sometimes happens) or some chemical that's in the tap water. With little or no water movement films are more likely to form. Can't say for sure which of these it is but it's a good idea to clear the film because it will reduce the oxygen level in the water since there is less exposed surface area.

In case anyone else is trying to figure this out I'm posting a copy of a PM I sent to randomguider -

Long ago I used to grow under lights but things have changed since then. If I were trying to figure this out for myself I would probably look at PPFD for whatever lights you're buying (assuming that they are available and true - were at the mercy of the vendor to a certain extent). This will tell you the amount of light given off within the PAR area of the spectrum (the main part of the spectrum that plants use). See here for a good explanation - https://www.gardenmyths.com/led-grow-li ... -spectrum/. You also need to look at what portion of the PAR wavelengths suit your purpose - It sounds like you are just using these to get the seedlings going and if that's the case you should look for information on this. If you're trying to get plants to flower or do the full growth bit, then you might need something different.

Here's some information on the plant wavelengths you need (looks like 430 to 450 nm for seedlings based on this - https://homeguides.sfgate.com/plant-lig ... 72801.html)

As far as the water. You can use the aquarium water but for starting the seedlings initially, just plain old tap water may be better. The seeds generally don't need any nutrients as they sprout but as you move them on they will.

Cheers and hope this helps :thumbright: .

My guess is the inverted container. Is it yogurt, or sour cream? Maybe it still had some residue in it that could have spurred some growth in the tub? :dontknow:
