I have a 50 Gallon Low Boy Flat Aquarium (by Zoomed). It looks like this:

It's dimensions are 48″ x 24″ x 10″ (121.92 x 60.96 x 25.4 centimeter). It will be stocked with tropical ornamental fish. It will be in my living room with media grow beds placed on a vertical shelving system behind the aquarium. I'll have a 10 gallon sump below the aquarium, to keep the water level in the Low-Boy tank.

With it's unusual flat long shape, what would be the best placement for the inflow and outflow, and for the plumbing in general?

How would you setup this aquarium?

You can drill a hole in the tank or use an auto over flow siphon to drain the water from the tank down to the sump via gravity. Then pump up to the grow bed. Grow bed drain backs to fish tank. Personally I want to try a DWC gutter system. Seams it would work better because you wouldnt need to mess with timers or siphons. Just pump water to the top of the gutters and let it flow back to tank. I am floating rafts in 40 gallon breaders and it works very well. Toying with ideas of how to expand and make it better.

There several ways to do it including floating a raft on top of the tank.

You will need a sump tank big enough to hold the amount of water the grow bed will gold. I think 10 gallons would be good for a trouph, PVC, or gutter system. If you wentnwith gutters or PVC DWC system then you could mount them to the wall and make them look pretty.

Don't forget about lighting. You want minimum light in the tank and max lighting to plants.

Aquarium over flow I am thinking about making.
