Hello! New here, I am koitish_girl and I am starting me second aquaponics system! My first one was a simple ten gallon tank with some herbs, but my second one is a lot larger. It’s a PVC system (flood style) and has about 100 sq meters in growing space. My question was does anyone have a good guess on how many fish I’d need for this size of growing? I am going to use expanded clay as medium and we are probably going to go with sunfish. I know it’s about 100 grams of food/day per meter of growing area but how many fish is that?? Obviously small fish won’t eat as much so when they are small I’ll need more. But speaking on a full grown scale how many sunfish would it take to eat 100/grams a day? Do I need a messier fish? Any advice would be helpful! Thank you in advance! |

MAX fish stocking per minimum grow bed/fish tank volumes 3 kg of fish per 100 liters of flood and drain media filled grow beds with 50-100 liters of fish tank (1 lb of fish per 5 gallons of flood and drain media filled grow beds with 2.5-5 gallons of fish tank) There is a ton of information in the often repeated rules of thumb thread on the main page of the forum. You will be fine with sunfish that's what I use in my system. Good luck |
