Post subject:  Aquaponics and Tropical fish

Hi Everybody i am Peter and i live in Portugal.

I am approaching Aquaponics from a different direction. I have buildt a 5,000 lt fish tank and before i build the filter system i want to look at Aquaponics. In the room the tank is situated i have the opportunity to control the temperature and also lighting will be via LED lights.

My question really is has any members used an Aquaponis system with a tropical fish setup and how did it go. I don't want to go down the route of raising fish just to kill for food but the fish waste can help me grow food for my own use.

Thanks

Peter

Hi Peter,

First off I better let you know that I'm not growing tropical fish. AP will work fine for tropical fish as long as you can maintain the temp high enough for the fish.... and provide enough light and nutrients for the plants. Good quality pellet feeds designed for growth are important, flake feeds generally won't work as well (they're usually more for maintenance).
