Hi!

I have never tried aquaponics before but I really like keeping aquariums. I have a decorative 20 gallon aquarium at home that already has plants and fish inside. I want to make a aquaponic system from this. Is it going to be an issue that the aquarium is planted? are there going to be enough nutrients in the water for the aquarium plants and the aquaponic plants?

Thanks!

Tough to say, sometimes the aquatic plants take up most of the nutrients and the plants you want to grow don't do as well as they should :dontknow: .

probably depends on what plants you grow, maybe fast growing plants like mint might be better able to compete. I'd imagine you could sway the advantage the aquaponic plants by reducing the amount of light to the fish tank.
