Post subject:  can Potassium Nitrate be used??

Dear friends


I have asked before about potassium here and I am thankful for all answers a got from you guys, I found cheap supplier for potassium nitrate KNO3 here in Qatar, Can I be using this in my system as a potassium supplement (I did not have any effect on Ph I tested it), and any advices or recommendations of how to use it

Yes you can use it but it's basically just like using a regular fertilizer and using too much can lead to fast weak growth that is more susceptible to disease. Dasboot used it by spray applying but I don't remember the amount - the package might have instructions for this or you might find these online. You should be able to add to the system water as well but then you can have competition between the different ions in the water for uptake by the plants.

For what it's worth, in the peak of growing season, I sometimes have plants take off, then show nitrate deficiency. I add small amounts of potassium nitrate (10-30 mL of powder to 500 gal system every couple days) when plants show these signs of deficiency and it helped.
