hello which is the best way of making a bio filter for my aquaponics system

Hi William,

We're going to need to know more about how your system is setup or how you think it should be setup in order to answer this. For most systems the grow beds are the bio-filter and they work great without anything else.

Media choice depends alot on what kind of system you are trying to run. Most common type is a media grow bed system that does very well with river rock gravel. A raft based system will have an external biofilter, in that case netting or pre farb biofilter pellets/balls are both common choices. Different media types have different advantages so it just depends on the system configuration. If you could tell me more about your system I could give you some options.

I saw a youtube video where a guy was using compost worms in a grow bed as a bio filter in the growing media.

Compost worms are a common addition in grow beds. No reason you can't think of them as a biofilter but they usually won't get the job done on their own. There are a lot of different critters involved in processing waste.
