I dont know if anyone would be interested, but here is a product I found that would be good for emergencies where your fish need oxygen fast. Its a pond safe tablet you throw in the water to add oxygen.

I was also thinking that because this is slow release perhaps it could be added to fish being shipped across the country in those breathable bags..

Very interesting. I use bottled oxygen for emergency and transporting. Probably wouldn't work for me though, as I still have measurable Ammonia (0.2) Why would it not be suitable for High pH or Ammonia?
Any idea of the cost?

It cost $14.69. Also, its a powder not a tablet like I though.

Would this be per dose? What sort of volumes could this treat? I've tried Googling it but just get a load of dead links.

If this stuff will release oxygen for weeks then I dont see why I could not purge some fingerlings, put them in a breating bag, add some of this stuff and ship them across the world.. As long as they are purged there will not be high levels of ammonia for some time.

Perhaps I should buy a gold fish and put it in a bag with this stuff to see how long it can live

Its "Food grade", thats a definate plus.

I am guessing the powder is a caustic/alkaline substance, and the chemical reaction with the water releases the oxygen. If this is so, the reason it would not be suitable for high ph, is there is probably not enough acid to recact with it in the water. And the reason it would not be suitable for Water with ammonia, is it would raise the pH, and make the ammonia more toxic.....

Edit: anyone remember any food grade powders that you add to water and it releases 02? a google search has proved fruitless so far...

H2O2 is food safe and produces oxygen but it probably wouldn`t do your bacteria colony much good

Actually H2O2 is beeing diluted in bioponic system, or on a permanent very diluted basis to increase DO or a weekly organic oxydation treatement. And the principle of bioponics is to seed with specific bacteria and feed them with an organic fertiliser and wait for the bacteria to decompose it in minerals nutrients.
We have used it to treat fish disease too, and it doesn't have much effect on the biofilters.

A word of caution for H2O2, the peroxide you get off the shelf for cuts and scrapes often has heavy metals in it or other compounds for stabilization that are not good for human consumption! Get food grade if you use it! I know t his because when I was building hydrogen peroxide rockets the metals in off the shelf stuff would cause it to decompose if you distilled it to concentrations above 35 percent.

I buy the hydroponic stuff at 35 %, it is to produce plants and is certified for food plant production in Europe.
The fish stuff is powder, it is captured with a sodium compound.
