Hi

I recently set up a small aquaponic aquarium and plan on growing herbs in it. With my other fish tanks (just fish, no human food) I use Prime and several API products (Leaf Zone, Stress Zyme and CO2). I've read somewhere that it's safe to use Prime when growing herbs but can anyone here confirm that? Also, is it safe to use the API products especially Stress Zyme as I really want to keep the fish healthy.

Any and all help for this newb to get it right is greatly appreciated

it does create issues but will be plant and chemical dependent.
not eating fish = definite issue if you were as they are accumulators.

Leafy veg going to eat = probably not (depends on the chemistry and toxicity of the products)

The issue has popped up with Kale in the US (California to be specific) where basically the move across to mass Kale demand as a highly promoted 'super food' saw that the kale picked up residual chemicals and pesticide residue etc from the soil. As a consequence a host of articles jumped on all those people sucking down 'healthy' Kale juices etc were actually potentially picking up less desirable and/or toxic chemicals/elements.

It was on the internet variously.

moral is - it is very hard to say. Some things are pretty mild in small doses (eg. bromide or iodine) but can be issue if substantially present or you eat a lot of it.

So the 'organic' rule is if you are going to eat it don't risk it.
But if you are prepared to take the risk at least look at what is in the products you are proposing to use and determine their potential toxicity impacts.

I agree with dif_perth. Nevertheless I still use Flourish Fe as a foliar spray on my DWC weekly (weakly) Check the ingredients and see if there is something in there you'd rather not ingest. Flourish Fe is only one of the foliar sprays I use on a regular basis. I only started using it because I needed to resolve a leaf yellowing issue. Mostly I use MaxCrop FE in the AP water to correct iron deficiency.

Thank you both.

I'll go with additive free and see what happens
