I have been using a water conditioner for adding tap water my small 40 gallon system. On the label it says something like "detoxifies nitrites". Does anyone think this will inhibit the rise of nitrites while I'm cycling my system?

Check to see if it also says "Not for human consumption, Toxic" or something to that effect, the aquarium water conditions usually do. Can't use water conditioners and the like due to this reason.

Only thing you should treat the water with is perhaps just a pinch of plain non iodized salt for that size system and make sure it is dechlorinated and added in a slow manner so as to avoid pH shock.

Do check that water conditioner thoroughly bro, is important if you plan on eating anything out of the system.

Thanks for the info. This is the stuff I'm using:
http://www.thepondoutlet.com/shop/image ... p_data.pdf

I can't see anywhere that it says toxic. Think I should just discontinue usage?
I think our municipal water supply uses chloramine instead of chlorine. I think I remember reading somewhere that this chemical won't gas out. Is that true?

Don't know nothing about no chloramines, first I've heard of the issue.

The pdf doesn't tackle toxicity to humans, I would drop them an email to ask specifically but hold off on consuming a harvest, I have a hunch they turn around and tell you no way jose.
