Hello, I am fairly new to aquaponics but gave really enjoyed and learned a lot from your posts. I have a drain and fill grow bed with a bell siphon and another vertical trickle tower system both using pea gravel as the grow media. I have noticed that people using zip tower systems use a grow media that looks similar to old fashioned air furnace filter media. I have access to new damaged air furnace filters with the old blue or white spun fiberglass filter. Is there any reason that these wouldn't work? I was thinking of cutting them into strips to stuff through a tower trickle system and growing directly in the filter media or alternately stuffing a tank full of the stuff and pumping fish water through as a biofilter. Anyone ever used thus media? Any suggestions or advice?? Thanks Marcus |

I know polyester is fish safe. I might be worried about fiberglass with your fish. Possible small pieces getting into their gills? |

And a lot of the insulations people use are gonna be rockwool, but if you think about how itchy fiberglass is, how you have to wear a respirator while working with it, how difficult it is to get out of your skin.... I would worry about my fish. Sent from my C811 4G using Tapatalk |

I have a swamp cooler filter in one tank, it is made of shaved Aspen. I'd worry the fiberglass would break free and remain in suspension in fish tank Sent from my HTC One using Tapatalk |
