My Uncle sells this product uses it himself. Its safe for fish apparently as he uses it with his goldies? Either way check it out for bacteria! http://www.andersonbio.com/products.cfm ... nt=aquaone Good to start a system? |

Hell I have no idea what bacteria are in it and I do not think he knows either. But he was telling me that he has a vase that he put his goldie in and then the product he sells. It turns the water crystal clear? He usually had to change the water every week now only once a month. It wont kill anything I guess. I could test it with urine check the water eh? |

http://www.andersonbio.com/products.cfm ... nt=aquaone Good to start a system? Aqua-One is a very good (comparable to eheim) brand of aquarium products. I have never used canned bacteria (I know they come in a sachet) but some people I know swear by it. Thing is, people have been growing bacteria since septic tanks were invented. This just shortcuts the process. Due to the size of most AP systems I would assume it to be cost prohibitive. If Aqua-One say it wont hurt fish, you can be pretty sure it wont... However you already have the bacteria in the air and tap water, throw some food in, and watch them thrive... all it means is you put afew fish in before you put in a lot. if you put in a lot first up, the ammonia spike will be so large they will all die. (maybe) |

Lots of similar products around SlicerDicer and I'm sure they all work in one fashion or another.... Reading the PDF it seems to suggest using it on a "regular" basis to breakdown the "sludge" and undigested food.... I'd use it to start the "cycling" stage of a new system, but not after that.... In AP we want the "sludge" and undigested food .... it's trapped in the growbeds and provides the trace elements in an AP system.... t The bacteria that colonize a growbed are essentially doing the same thing as what's in the bottle.... just they're doing it for free

Oh and Slicer.... if you're going to use it.... The PDF suggests that you turn off any UV filter for at least 24 hours before and ...you must de-chlorinate your water befoe hand also. |

I have to bang the piss out of it to get it to start and not shut it off. It is going on 4 years old? its been put through hell though. Not to mention when it malfunctioned and killed about 15 fish

ah well if it's free it can't hurt. I successfully kick started my system with a personal contribution (urine). cycled it without fish or plants for 10 days and everything went really well. |

Aquaone is... a cheaper product. The bio spira was the best of all the products I trialled. Sure they kinda work but in reality some bacteria bred in a lab are not going to be suited to your random weather conditions. May as well throw a handful of garden dirt in there. And yes I sold bottles of bacteria for many years. Hundreds of them and about 10 different brands! Personally if I want someones new fish to live I give them a chunk of established filter media. Why buy seeds when you can take a cutting? never fails. |
