When you have a grow bed full of gravel and you have some small children, one of the first things the kids are going to want to do is pick up some gravel and throw it in the fish tank. In itself this is not really a problem, but eventually some of the gravel is going to find it's way to your pump. Yesterday, after a few days of the pipe blasting out of the pump, we installed some stainless steel screws to hold it on to the pump. During this process the pump got a clean and the non-return valve did too. Axl found about a cup of gravel above the n-r valve It's amazing what a bit of cleaning out the pipes can do for a system |

I have also discovered that a very good reason for slow draining in a grow bed is a large tomato in the standpipe :clown: |

I've got a boy who's just turned 1. He follows me to the fish tank every morning and sees me throwing things (food) into the tank. It didn't take him long to learn that he could do that too, only with whatever rocks he can find on the ground. Problem is that he's so cute, and I'm so proud of him following in my aquaponic footsteps, that I havent got the heart to tell him off! |

What you need is someone who is not emotionally attached to him to give him a good clip around the ears |

My girls like to feed the fish. It's very exciting when the fish make the water boil. |

I made the water boil once, but the fish didn't seem to enjoy it... |
