36x24x8" ... => 900x600x200mm...... Perhaps a little shallow, but for the price, a bargain..... don't think the depth will matter Great score |

Yeah ROZ, but I think you've dropped a 0 there - 20mm would be a bit shallow |

They don't seem to sell mortar containers in Australia. Must be a USA thing. Do you yanks not have wheelbarrows over there. As for me, I mix concrete on a slab of concrete (though would much prefer to have a concrete mixer). |

HN, I used one of those in my system last year, see: http://www.backyardaquaponics.com/forum ... =4043#4043 The 20 gallon plant-tainers are nice too. The mortar tub is indeed shallower than ideal, would be difficult or impossible to do a siphon on it, and you'd be limited to shorter plants. |

Dave, did you like the mortar tub? Looks like it worked well. I don't run siphons so thats not an issue. Would you recommend its use? |

Sure why not? I actually got mine as an impulse buy because it was like $12 at Lowe's. You might look at the Sterilite tubs from WalMart if they have those there in paradise. The one I have are 25 gallons, like 15" deep and cost about the same as the mortar tubs. I think mortar tubs are great - that's why I special-ordered the 90 gallon one I have now (same manufacturer as the Tuff Tubs). My next door neighbor has a yellow steel mortar tub she's using as a planter too. The depth is right, just need to find a cheaper source (in stock already) than special ordering them from Tractor Supply. I also really like the round plant-tainers from McCourt (same manufacturer as the little mortar tub). I have three that aren't being used in the current setup, but I want to use them to hold tomatoes. They can hold bigger plants. You may want to put a frame around it as it will bow out. |

So I picked up 2 of the mortar tubs. I think they are perfect GBs. a bit shallow but an excellent size. I'll get pictures up of it once i get it going. |
