Hello all I was visiting Aussieponic, who is an old friend in Brisbane. We hadn't caught up for some time, so I was somewhat surprised when he showed me his impressive system in progress. You see, I have kept freshwater aquaria ever since I was a teenager, and had recently been giving some thought to building a reed bed type of bio filter for my tanks and was wondering about the suitability of veggies. Previous to this I had not heard about aquaponics, only hydroponics. Straight away I am hooked! This is exactly what I was looking for. We have just moved house, hopefully the last move for a long time, so I am looking to set up my tanks, and now aquaponics, really well. I will post some pics today of the fernery and yard where I propose to build my system, any suggestions and advice really welcome as I want to get it right. There may be some distance between the tanks, ie 10 metres. Would that pose a problem apart from pump and pipe size? I am a Registered Nurse (Psychiatric), any other health workers out there? Cheers |

More Pics. Sorry but I don't have a dachshund for scale, toy poodle only. I don't know what the conversion factor is...

Thanks for the welcome. AP, I am really really sorry, I should have more respect (but I don't). I had the man in today wet sealing the bathroom (renovations in progress) and the thought occurred to me that if he did the entire bathroom it would make a really good fishtank with built in viewing windows. And it would be bigger than AP's system And indoors as well. |
