Just wanted to say hey from Florida, USA.
Great site, I stumbled onto it the other day from a link someone had posted about farming freshwater prawn. I kept a few freshwater and saltwater (reef tanks) a few years ago so I'm pretty familiar with nitrate/ammonia cycles and all that. I dont know why I never thought about raising other plants using the cycled water from the tanks, I've known about using mangroves as a bio filter for years.

What really peaked my interest in all of this is that my fiance and I are in the process of buying a home on a few acres where we can work on a more self sufficient lifestyle, since vegetable gardening and raising fish as a food source was already part of the plan this just makes it all that much better.

we plan on keeping chickens, pigs, goats, fish and utilizing as much solar, wind and hydro power as we can afford while DIY'ing as much as possible. I'm also learning about making e85 ethanol fuel for our cars. I was raised on a farm by dutch/german farmer grandparents so the whole idea of farming and self sustenance isnt too much of a strech for me.
