Hi Anybody got any ideas how to encourage 300gm+ Silver Perch , previously fed on pellets , to start eating duckweed produced in a separate tank using some of the waste water from the system , and simply harvested and thrown into the fish tanks without a great deal of success. Would it be worthwhile processing the weed and trying to make a floating "weed" pellet ??? :-) |

Maybe try mixing the duckweed and pellets together so they can't help but eat some of the duckweed. Then start reducing the percentage of pellets that you give. They might just not recognize duckweed as food. Are Silvers carnivorous or omnivorous? That could be a factor, too. |

Silvers are omnivorous and will eat duckweed.... or even algae off the side of the tank. Lot of people have found that they just don't do it when you're watching... Most have found that it disappears overnight.... Perhaps they're just not hungry at the time Harold.... maybe cut out the pallets for that feed time and just throw the duckweed in.... see if it's still there the next day Oh... and welcome to the forum. |

Welcome to the forum Harold....my SP eat duckweed, I know that coz in the morning it has gone...duckweed is not something they leap out of the tank to devour, but they do eat it, same as most green veg leaves (cabbage, lettuce, sometimes silver beet) |

yep, they don't need no encouragement. just put the duckweed in and hold back on the nrmal feed, will be gone by the next morning Sort of like giving a kid lollies and veggies, which one you think they'll pick? |
