So i've got my system running aside from the timer. my problem, is that the timer i bought doesn't allow me to set hourly events, only daily. it's also only got 9 slots.

What impact would it have on my system if i only flooded 9 times a day? I get that it won't remove as much ammonia, but will it survive 9 times a day? can i alter my system in a way that will allow it.

if not i can just buy another one. my timer is only a $10 job. no harm in asking the question though.

Timmy, grab yourself another timer mate....

Major downsides of not enough turnover of tank water.... not enough oxygenation of the fish tank... not enough time for bacteria to convert nitrites to nitrates... not enough time for the plants to absorb/take up nitrates.... not enough filtration in general and probably not enough saturation of the growbeds to stop the bacteria colonies and/or plants from literally drying out...

Sure, you could set up a very slow fill and drain, but what problems you may solve by doing that would be counteracted by problems caused.

Just buy a better timer or look at utilising siphons...:D

I see.
No problem i'll just grab a different one.
it all works sweet aside from that. i hooked it up with my timer i have here, fills my 2 grow beds in 2 minutes, siphon kicks in and drains it in another 2 easy.

I have 5 strawberry plants and 3 tomato plants ready to go in. I'll buy 6 comets when i get home from work next week.
