Hiya, someone slap me... ok here goes... Wishlist: - So can I have an AP system that is in 1 tank please - Plant roots are protected from the fish - Worms live in the growbed and the water - No pump (autosiphon) or Single pump system for low power consumption - Tiered, upside down, winged keel look over the tank - Floating plant city - The fish are in the same body of water all the time This is more like a continuous flow system so just the growbeds are integrated over the tank... so I guess the ecology still should work... maybe? I figure there would be issues with cleaning/access to the tank and the plants but that just may depend on the tank dimensions and the growbed keel. Thanks/Shaun |

Thanks Jaymie, More oxygen makes sense and also I guess make the tank have more surface area than depth, so the gb 2:1 ratio can be more easily met. Has anyone done an AP system in a single tank before? Any other thougts out there? I wonder if the first AP systems were single or multiple tanks. mmmm I dont really know the AP history. thanks all/Shaun |

I would try an aeroponic variation. In fact, I've been considering trying it myself. Envision fish in a tank half full of water. Resting on the top edges of the tank is a top with 2" holes in it. In each hole is a mesh basket with hydrotron and a plant. Floating on the surface of the water is a mister -- either an ultrasonic or a motorized (spinning disc with suction tube -- they sell them for aquaponics) The plants roots are constantly (or intermittently) bathed in nutrient-rich mist and protected from the fish as long as they don't venture down below the water's surface. The water may be sufficiently aerated by the drops falling into it. |
