For no reason i put a handful of sand from the beach (i made sure in was wet sand) into my bio filter that was 4days ago now i algae growing from the sand its brown and long i wonder if algae from the sea can survive in an AP system and if so will it be beneficial? it does seam to be thriving

I think the water might not be salt enough to support sea life, but I think you'll just have to experiment for a bit.

The only use for algae I see in an AP system is as fishfood.. Although they might increase dissolved oxygen levels as well.
