This seems to be old news by the context, but has anyone seen this article? http://www.barnstablepatriot.com/greena ... _7509.html It's a tale of bureaucracy and poor sportsmanship I s'pose. Although I suppose it's also a tale of an idiotic US citizen redefining democracy to her own ends; but I digress. Anyway, thought it might be an interesting read for anyone considering starting a commercial aquafarm. Seems to me the complainers are just being ignorant; but I haven't found any more info on the subject. Edit: was from August 2005 |

I would be delighted if an AP farm moved in next door. I'd probably knock on their door and ask if they wanted help. |

From the article above. She is right I think, this is the country that locks people up for 5 years without trial. Muzza |

This is the area of the farm It would look like there is existing small businesses there already. I don't know if it is the scraped clear area at the bottom or the collection of large sheds at the top. Probably the scraped or "scalped" area referred to in the article. |

A kind of similar thing is happening to a friend of mine who is planning a commercial aquaponic venture to the north of Adelaide. Its not just an American thing. |

Yep that would be US. Not one of the better moments of our history. Spose we could also consider the internment camps of WWII as well. I can emagine being upset about loosing a view, just a good idea to pick your site wizely after talking to the neighbors I guess. |

Yeah nothing really to do with aquaponics and whether it's good or not, just a neighbour who is upset with clearing building etc... It would have been the same response if they were growing roses in pots in a greenhouse, or anything else... |

I think the neighbors had bought reasonably priced property in an agrcultural zone expecting no one would ever develop anything nearby. But now that there is something being built, they will do what they can to keep things in their own best intrest. Quote: Opponents say the agricultural exemption does not apply because the fish will be the farm’s primary crop. According to Henchy, who cited similar cases in a memo to the zoning board, the property is exempt under guidelines set forth by Barnstable zoning by-laws.
just my 2 cents -Stevo |

Like people building at the end of the runway and complaining about the noise of the jets. In the US they build in the middle of farms and complain of the smell of manure. |

That's exactly what happened near my MIL's house in western P.A. A developer bought farmland and put up a bunch of houses, people moved in then started to complain about the cows, they even tried as a group to have something done about it -Stevo |

The AP people sound completely sane and logical and sound like the kind of people you'd like to have around, and the homeowner sounds like a shrill overexcited jerk. |

I wonder what they are meaning when they say that strawberries require a different set of nutrients? |
