Post subject:  council fencing requirements

I've been wondering if there are any requirements by councils to fence aquaponics fish tanks. Our system will be fenced but is it necessary? I know many councils will have different rules but what is the general position?

forest--Safety is a priority.
If not for you then someone else, even on the off chance.
Aways fence water deeper than a 100mm.

Once done you never have to worry!!!!!!

Rhonda, in most states of Australia fencing of water bodies that are not a swimming pool, spa, paddling or wading pool, is not required.. That is, ponds fish tanks etc, are not required by law to be fenced..

Here's a previous discussion on the subject and a link to QLD laws:

Having lost a child to drowning I would recomend strongly that you make your fishtanks child safe. If not a fence, steel mesh on the top.

I'm very sorry to hear that, AP. I also had a near drowning with my youngest son when he was 2. I resuscited him and he's now 26. For that reason, I've been super vigilent around water ever since. We have small children living near us and our system will be fully fenced but I'm going to talk to the neighbours and let them know we're putting a deep open tank in.

thanks for the links, joel.
